The core of maintaining cracked solid wood furniture lies in environmental control and regular maintenance after repair, preventing cracks from widening and restoring the wood's stability.
1. First Priority After Repair: Stabilize Humidity
After crack repair, indoor humidity must be maintained between 40% and 60% to prevent secondary cracking.
In dry northern regions (especially rooms with underfloor heating), a humidifier is recommended to prevent continuous moisture loss from the wood.
In humid southern regions, use air conditioning to dehumidify, preventing the wood from absorbing moisture and expanding, which could cause the repair layer to peel off.
2. Avoid Heat Sources and Direct Sunlight
Keep furniture at least 30 cm away from heat sources such as radiators, air conditioner vents, and electric heaters.
Do not place it in direct sunlight from windows; if necessary, install curtains or dust covers to prevent ultraviolet rays from accelerating paint aging and causing localized cracking.
3. Regularly apply wood wax oil to strengthen the protective layer.
Apply natural wood wax oil every 6 months, paying special attention to the repaired area and edges:
Clean the surface of dust and lightly sand the repaired area with 600-grit sandpaper until smooth.
Apply wood wax oil evenly along the wood grain and allow it to dry completely for 72 hours.
After drying, polish with a soft cloth to enhance shine and seal.
It is recommended to use a lightweight, environmentally friendly wood wax oil (such as Carpoly solid wood wax oil), which has no pungent odor and is suitable for office and home environments.
