Waxing wooden office furniture requires a four-step process: cleaning, wax selection, application, and polishing. This restores shine, prevents moisture and cracking, and extends the furniture's lifespan.
Preparation Before Waxing
Thoroughly Clean the Surface: Wipe the furniture with slightly damp, non-alkaline soapy water to remove old wax, dust, and oil. Then, thoroughly dry it with a clean cloth to prevent moisture residue from causing the wood to swell or mold.
Inspect the Finish: Ensure there are no scratches, bubbles, or peeling paint. If damage exists, repair the paint first before waxing to prevent wax from seeping in and causing further damage.
Choosing the Right Wax
We recommend using a dedicated solid wood furniture wax, beeswax, or wood wax oil. Avoid polishes containing silicone resins, as they can soften the finish and clog the wood pores.
For frequently used desks, we suggest using a wear-resistant care wax to improve the surface's stain resistance.
Correct Waxing Procedure
Apply a small amount of wax to a cloth.
Apply the wax to a clean cotton cloth or sponge, rather than directly onto the furniture, to avoid excessive application and buildup.
Apply evenly along the wood grain.
Gently wipe along the wood grain, using a "from point to surface, from light to dark" approach to ensure even coverage and reduce friction damage to the surface.
Let it sit and absorb (10–15 minutes).
Allow the wax to fully penetrate the wood fibers, enhancing its moisturizing and protective effects.
Polish to remove excess wax.
Use a dry, soft cloth or polishing gloves to buff back and forth, removing excess wax until the surface is smooth, shiny, and free of stickiness.
